Creating a Disability Studies Senior Seminar
Disability Studies is a field regarding the culture and history of the disabled community. This is a growing field, and one I'm incredibly passionate about.
Because of this, I began a project during my Fall '25 semester to implement an introductory course on Disability Studies to Roger Williams University. Through discussions with administration and faculty, it was decided on that this would best suit a senior seminar, and during my Spring '26 semester I interned with an education professor to create the course.
My responsibilities included research, establishing the core components of the course, identifying objectives and essential questions, developing the course structure with units and their key resources, and designing course activities to improve learning and connections to the material. Some of my major projects included the syllabus, deciding on the resources and choosing to find an Open Educational Resource (OER) to make the course as accessible as possible, and an outline of each assignment for the course.
This seminar is set to run next Spring ('27)!
